Mammograms
A mammogram is a crucial diagnostic tool used in the early detection of breast cancer. This specialized X-ray imaging exam provides detailed images of the breast tissue, allowing healthcare professionals to identify abnormalities and potential signs of cancerous growths. Mammograms are recommended for women over the age of 40 and for those with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors.
During a mammogram, you will be asked to undress from the waist up and wear a hospital gown. The technologist will position your breast on a specialized platform, which is then compressed by a paddle to spread out the breast tissue. While this compression might cause some discomfort, it ensures clear and accurate images. The specially designed X-ray machine captures images from different angles, and the entire process takes only a few minutes per breast.
